Colorful Abstract Paintings

Dear Art Lover,
Every artist, like every person probably, goes through a variety of phases through his life.  If you are like me, perhaps you see your phases as a connected part of a longer process.  I hope that each phase shows a mind at work.

Today I thought that I would share with you my “colorful macro phase” or the use of the human figure as abstract patterns because I zoomed in on them… and my attempts to push myself into bright color, which is an area in which I have never felt particularly comfortable.  These were done in 2005, before I began street painting in Italy and really diving into color.

So, to remind you of the deal:

Eugenia and Pillows Life Modeling Paintings

Dear Art Lover,
Some artists’ models do not work for long or maybe in the same city.  They may be travelers looking for some extra cash [hopefully art lovers as well, for at least:  who THINKS of art modeling as a job opportunity when on the go?].  Eugenia was one model that I did not paint often, however, I would draw or paint her every few years at some life drawing session in Austin, Texas.  Something makes me think that she may still live in Austin, but also that her “real life” revolves around another form of art [jewelry making or theatre?] or perhaps she found a full-time job that found her in conflict with the hours of the life drawing sessions around town.   It can be done perhaps for a short period of time, but it is difficult to make a living as an art model.
Here you see a portrait of Eugenia that I painted in one session.  On an odd side note, there exists a “Eugene.”  A client found “Eugenia” on my Web site and he wrote to me to ask, “I see you have this wonderful portrait of a boyish-looking woman.  Would you please create a similar painting for me, but of a feminine-looking male?”  Interesting exercise, it was!

So, to remind you of the deal:

About three years later, I painted this body crop of Eugenia.  It is basically a composition of pillows, a breast, and her arm draped across the frame.  I later glazed colors over parts of it.  Pillows is one of my quirky favorites.

Dave with Janet and SkySeries Tryptich Paintings

Dear Art Lover,
Today’s August offerings are two… but one is actually a combination of three small paintings.  Both artworks are from various life drawing sessions I attended in Austin, Texas, with great models.

In case you missed yesterday’s post:     I would like to offer, for the month of August 2015 only, selected paintings and drawings for about half the price as my going rate these days.  These are older works, but ones that for one reason or several others, I cannot stand the idea of destroying.  Please contact me directly if you see something you love and would like to add to your art collection.  Here goes the first one for today …

Dave and Janet were/are very well-known and often hired models during many of my formative years in Austin, Texas.  It is likely that every figurative artist in the past 20 years has drawn or painted them at least once.  Dave always likes to push himself, in his running and in his modeling.  He worked to make his poses interesting from many angles.  Even at his older age (from most of my colleagues and me), he designed poses that were difficult to hold.  The pose you see here of Dave is one that I have painted many times, from many angles.  He said he was inspired by Michelangelo.
Janet is a lovely person.  I have painted her less often, but always enjoyed the experience.  I think that I painted at her session first.  I was in a stage of my artistic journey in which I felt overwhelmed having only three hours with a model and was still doing body parts and using them to find interesting compositions.  I often compose  triangles in my work.
These two wonderful models, real people and real friends, also posed together for me for the bronze sculpture titled, “I am You.”  They taught me so much during that project!

Exploring Europe Original Painting of Young Couple Traveling

Dear Art Lover,
Hmmm, it is August already!  I hope that you received my latest art newsletter.  It contains Part II of the images I wanted to share with you of Genoa, Italy’s amazing sculpture museum (aka, the cemetery).  If you have not seen the images… please check out the page online:

Other news is that I had a bit of a shock when I returned to Texas recently.  I left far more art here than I realized.  So, in order to help me move once I find a place to live and get back to carving stone, I thought that I would try something new.
I would like to offer, for the month of August 2015 only, selected paintings and drawings for about half the price as my going rate these days.  These are older works, but ones that for one reason or several others, I cannot stand the idea of destroying.  Please contact me directly if you see something you love and would like to add to your art collection.  Here goes the first one…
young couple shares a pizza in front of a fountain Germany

Exploring Europe -- AVAILABLE NOW [original art]
24 x 18 cm [about 9.4 x 7 inches] Oil on wood
copyright 2007 Kelly Borsheim

This painting was inspired by my trip around parts of Europe in 2006 as I traveled to see exhibitions of Eugene Carriere, my favorite painter.  At this writing, I cannot remember where exactly I was when I saw this young couple enjoying the lazy, care-free life, eating pizza and sitting next to a large water fountain that squirted the water UP. However, I believe that I was in Germany when I saw them.

I finished this painting after I settled into Florence, Italy, in 2007 [hence the board dimensions in centimeters], but now the work is with me in Austin, Texas.

I offer this original painting to you for only $50 US.  Texas state sales tax (6.75%) may apply.  There is also a $9.50 packaging and shipping fee.

Please contact me for more information.
Thank you and as always…

Peace,

Kelly
