Jasmine Paintings in Tuscany

Dear Art Lover,
Those who feel lost and homeless experience an amazing sort of rebirth to finally fine a place to call home.  Every day now I wake up in Tuscany, blinking, not believing in my totally good fortune.  I love where I am and enjoy the characters in my life.   I still do not have a stone carving studio of my own, but thanks to Marco Nardini, I have a place to carve in his stone quarry.  I just have to get there.

Anyway, one of my first things to do this spring was to buy a decent-sized jasmine plant.  She is growing well and my landlord is going to help me string some line up the side of my stone house so that the jasmine can grow up and share her perfume to most all of my windows.  At least that is the hope!

I have recently completed two new oil paintings celebrating my new home with jasmine. Both are oil on wood panel, 50 x 35 cm (19.68 x 13.78 inches), and available... better price if you buy both. $800 each or $1400 for both, USD. Contact me! Thank you for sharing in my art journey and viewing the works.

Flowers from Florence For Rudy

Dear Art Lover,

Today is the birthday of a lady I admire very much: Audrey Hepburn.  Not just a beauty, but a generosity of spirit with a grace and gentleness I could never hope to match.

However, it is also the birthday of several friends [Lisa, Hilary, ].  But today I want to give a shout out to “my kid” Rudy Sanchez in Austin, Texas.  He is now 35 years old (or as the Italians would say, he HAS 35 years).  You taught me so much, Rudy, and I always wished that I could have done more for you.

Happy 35th Birthday, Rudy!

Because you are doing so well creating city gardens for the people in central Texas, I want to send you some image of flowers, sculpture, and more from my beloved city in Italia.  I wish you could have actually tasted this cheesecake from Osteria Santo Spirito with me.  It was nothing short of yummy!  [a little bird told me so. Hahaha]

Incidentally, the crew of Ron Howard with actor Tom Hanks, among many others, are filming in Florence now on another of the Dan Brown novels.

Peace,
Kelly

Giardino dell’Orticoltura Florence Italy

Florence, Italy, Firenze, Italia, Giardino dell’Orticoltura at dusk
Dear Art Lover,
So, continuing my post from yesterday, I “discovered” the Giardino dell’Orticoltura on my way home from Giovanni’s.  I had decided to weave my way down unknown streets while biking home that evening.  I had a vague idea of where I was, but each T in the streets led me to re-evaluate my theory.  These days I get torn between my youthful love of getting lost on purpose to see what one can see, and getting back to my work because I never feel that I have enough time.

Well, I had seen pictures of this park, but never really took the time to figure out where it is.  However, I heard a long time ago that an open door is an invitation.  So, when I rode past an interesting open gate, I turned around and decided to explore, rationalizing that “later will not likely come and I am here now.”

Oh, what a delight!  And as the dusk approached, the sky became my favorite shade of blue!  Open at 8:30 every morning, the closing time depends upon the season.  From January through March, the park closes at 6 p.m.  Most of the time the park closes at 7 pm, with the summer months of June, July, and August allow you to enjoy this public space in the city until 8 p.m.  Naturally, I found myself being politely shoo’d out by the staff.  But I was happy to have my curiosity satisfied and I got to see tulips!

Peace,
Kelly
